What are porcelain veneers?

Ceramic or porcelain veneer treatment is a popular dental procedure where a small amount of outer tooth surface is removed and replaced with thin, shell-like layers of dental porcelain to enhance the appearance of your teeth.

Why choose porcelain veneers?

  • Flawless finish: porcelain veneers are individually crafted so blend perfectly with your natural teeth
  • Stain-resistant: porcelain veneers are more resistant to staining from tea, coffee and red wine than natural teeth or composite bonding
  • Durable: crafted from the highest quality dental grade porcelain so will last a long time if well looked after
  • Low maintenance: regular brushing, flossing and hygiene treatments keeps your veneers in tip-top condition
  • Minimally invasive: in contrast to crowns, fitting veneers means more of the underlying tooth remains intact so there is less chance of the tooth becoming compromised

When would I require porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are the ideal aesthetic solution for:

  • Covering surface stains and discolouration
  • Restoring chipped or worn teeth
  • Repairing damage caused by decay or trauma
  • Treating stains caused by medication
  • Creating a more balanced smile
  • Closing small gaps between the teeth
  • Preventing further erosion or abrasion

Can anyone have porcelain veneers?

Good oral hygiene is required. If you have any dental issues such as cavities or gum disease your dentist will devise a treatment plan to resolve these before veneer treatment begins.

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers can last up to 15 years depending on your lifestyle, diet, bite and oral hygiene. If you play sport a mouthguard is essential. After your veneers are fitted, we advise six monthly hygiene treatments and dental examinations to ensure the health of your gums and natural teeth is maintained and your veneers are looked after.

How long does the treatment take?

From consultation to completion the process will take approximately 6 - 8 weeks.

What does the treatment involve?

At your initial appointment your dentist will discuss your goals and scan your teeth so they can create a replica model of your desired smile. At your next visit your dentist creates a mock-up in your mouth so you can see your future smile. Once you are happy with the mock-up your dentist will shave the surface of your teeth being transformed by approx. 1mm so the veneer fits flush to the rest of your teeth. This allows not only for better aesthetics, but also helps the natural function of the tooth. Your dentist will then fit temporary veneers for you to wear whilst your permanent veneers are being skilfully crafted in a laboratory. At your final appointment when your permanent veneers are ready , your dentist will bond them to you teeth to reveal your beautiful new smile.

Should I have porcelain veneers or composite bonding?

Both treatments have their advantages, so the answer depends on a variety of factors including your aesthetic goals and personal considerations. The best way to establish whether composite bonding or ceramic veneers is most suitable for you is by discussing it at your Smile Makeover consultation.

How much do porcelain veneers cost?

The price can vary depending on size, position and condition of the teeth being treated. As a guide, a standard veneer costs £620. We offer a finance plan with 0% interest to spread the cost of your investment.
