CBCT Scan
CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scans produce precise, high resolution 3D images of a patient’s mouth including the teeth, jaws, soft tissue and bones.
When would I need a CBCT Scan?
A CBCT scan is sometimes required when considering:
- Dental implants
- Endodontic therapy
- Surgical extractions
- Orthodontic treatment
What are the benefits of CBCT?
- The scan gives detailed information that allows your dentist to assess the exact shape of the bone and plan your treatment precisely.
- The radiation dose of the CBCT is much lower than a standard CT scan or regular X-ray.
What happens at a CBCT Scan?
Having a CBCT scan is similar to having an X-ray. Your head will be carefully positioned and lined up with the scanner. You will be asked to keep still while the machine moves around your head in a circular motion. The positioning can take a few minutes and the scan takes less than a minute to perform. You might need more than one scan depending on the reason for your examination.
CBCT Scanning at Ruabon Road
We are one of a few practices in North Wales with CBCT scanning technology and clinicians qualified to operate and report its findings.
What is the cost?
If you are not an existing patient with us, we are required to carry out a clinical assessment in the first instance at a cost of £50. During the assessment your clinician will establish the size of the x-ray required and whether it needs to be reported on internally or externally reviewed. This will determine the cost of the CBCT scan required which will be between £225 and £250.
